Welcome to Drumconner Bournemouth

Drumconner Care Home ( with Nursing ) is an attractive period house set in prizewinning gardens, conveniently situated along Poole Road near Bournemouth town, and within walking distance of Westbourne village, and the sea. click here for map. Sir Thomas Lees opened the Home in April 1988. Drumconner Care Home was extended to provide 30 single rooms and 1 double room, most of which have en-suite facilities.

Drumconner Care Home  has now been extended to provide several brand new luxurious bedrooms, called ‘The Dorset Suite’. The rooms are named after local places, namely Abbotsbury, Bryanston, Canford, Dorchester, Evershot and Farrington. They all have overhead hoists, electric profiling beds, seating areas, and ‘wet’ rooms with shower facilities; in addtion some have underfloor heating. They offer a lot of natural light, and are beautifully decorated in neutral tones. One of the ground floor rooms offers outside space, with a patio area overlooking the garden. Drumconner Care Home offers both Nursing and Residential care for male and female adults over the age of 18 years. We are registered for 35 residents. We offer a very high standard of care to elderly and younger clients, for both permanent, convalescent and respite care. Drumconner has an outstanding reputation within the local community, particularly with General Practitioners  and many other professionals.

In June 2008, The Drumconner Bournemouth Care Home was awarded the Three Star *** ‘Excellent’ Quality Rating by the Commission for Social Care Inspection, (now Care Quality Commission). This is the highest possible rating available for this well-respected organisation. Read the Commission’s full report on the Drumconner Bournemouth Care Home by clicking here.

Home Details

The Drumconner Care Home is a beautiful period house, which has many of the original features, including a grand staircase, which leads up from the welcoming reception area, to the first floor bedrooms. The dining room is a beautifully decorated room, with a solid wood parquet floor. It used to be the ballroom to the house, and is now used for dining, and also for hosting entertainment. There is a choice of two tastefully decorated sitting rooms, and also a library for the residents to sit in. We offer a choice of specialist bathrooms, one of which is a wet room, and we also have hydrotherapy facilities. Drumconner Care Home has its own fully equipped hairdressing salon.

The bedrooms offer a lot of natural light, and are decorated in fresh colours. The larger rooms would allow a resident to bring in some of their own furniture, if they wished. The Nursing Home is surrounded by beautiful gardens, there are various seating areas so the residents can sit and relax, and enjoy the fresh air.  A Nursing Home such as Drumconner Care Home is the ideal place to recuperate from a short term illness or operation also.

What we offer

Drumconner Care Home offers the very highest standards of care, looking after residents with many different health problems. We care for people with Multiple Sclerosis, Strokes, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinsons Disease and Cancer, as well as many other conditions. Drumconner has been established to provide quality physical, emotional, spiritual and social care, which recognises the need of the individual; a Residential Home should not only be a place where the physical needs are met, and Drumconner Care Home is unique in meeting this.

We aim to enable our residents to live as fully as possible with skilled care in an environment that fosters dignity, compassion, self-respect, independence, comfort and security. The atmosphere within Drumconner Care Home is very friendly and homely, and all the staff are caring and kind. The Nursing Home is run by the Matron/Manager in a very professional manner, but always with the residents best interests at heart, as she firmly believes that Drumconner is their ‘home’. Drumconner offers a daily choice of delicious, nutritious cuisine. We have highly qualified, experienced Chefs who cater for all dietary needs. All our produce, including meats and fish is sourced locally, and are of a very high standard.  The Nursing Home environment is ideal to recuperate after illness or surgery and good food is paramount in this recovery.

Drumconner has a highly qualified Complementary Therapist who visits weekly. She offers a number of therapies including Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Combined De-congestive Therapy, Thermal Auricular Therapy (Hopi ear candles), Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Counselling.  There is no extra charge for these therapies, and this is another of Drumconner Care Home’s unique points.   The residents in this Residential Home really benefit from the hands-on approach offered.

We offer a varied choice of activities and entertainment, including musical entertainment, music therapy, arts and crafts, bingo, board games and trips out in our minibus. The residents can visit local gardens and beauty spots, the seaside, museums and attend musical theatre shows. They also have the opportunity to ride on steam trains and have a trip on a boat around Poole Harbour. A social assessment is carried out when a resident is admitted to the Home, so that the activities can be tailor made for them.
