I am a Registered Nurse who trained at the Kent and Sussex and Pembury Hospitals, where I qualified in 1980. I was top of my year, and gained 1st place in my Hospital examinations, and was awarded the Student Nurse of the Year in 1980. I have worked in Care of the Elderly for the past 25 years, and have worked as a Matron/Manager of Dual Registered Homes for 14 years, and have been with Drumconner for 10 years. One of my greatest achievements is gaining the 3* Star ‘Quality Rating’ from the Commission for Social Care Inspection in 2008. I have training in Tissue Viability, Medicines Management, Respiratory Nursing, Cancer Nursing, and Palliative Care. I am married, with a son and daughter, and I have a beautiful grand daughter who is now 3 years old, whom I really enjoy spending time with. I enjoy travelling, reading, walking and cooking, and I am a staunch supporter of A.F.C. Bournemouth and Liverpool Football Clubs.
Drumconner Staff
Helen Colley – Matron/Manager R.G.N.
Avril A’Barrow – Deputy Matron R.G.N.
I came to work at Drumconner in 2004, as a Registered General Nurse [RGN], having a wealth of experience behind me to offer to the residents; spanning 30 years. In particular, I have been an Elderly Care Specialist since 1989. When the position of Deputy Matron fell vacant in June 2005, I successfully applied and gained the promotion. My nursing experience includes a District Nurse Diploma; Orthopaedic nurse Certificate and First Line Management. I continue to carry out relevant training to keep myself up to date and professional. Away from work, I have 1 daughter and 6 grandchildren; 3 girls and 3 boys who keep me busy. I enjoy reading, gardening and walking.
Madeleine Hills – Receptionist/Administrator
I joined Drumconner in 2006. I previously worked for a chain of Opticians both locally and in North Yorkshire. My varied roles covered reception, customer care and management. My pastimes include photography, genealogy, and walking. I live in Poole with my husband, and Barney the cat.
Cecilia Barton – Receptionist / Administrator
I’m the latest addition to the Drumconner family and share the Reception duties with Madeleine. This is a busy role, as we are the hub of the Home and the first point of contact for residents, visitors and other staff members. Between us, we also carry out all of the administrative tasks for the Home. In addition to this I also coordinate the activity programme for the residents. We have a full programme planned, with visits out, and some special visitors to entertain the residents in the Home as well; over the whole year.
Kevin Lowe – Head Chef
I have been at Drumconner for 2 ½ years as Head Chef. I learnt my skills in the Royal Air Force, serving for 30 years. Whilst serving in the Royal Air Force, I worked in many parts of the world and have experienced all different aspects of catering, from exercises in the middle of nowhere, to Royal functions, hospitals and in-flight catering. I worked at the Royal Motor Yacht Club on Sandbanks before joining the team at Drumconner.
Cassandra Lockwood – Head Housekeeper
I began working at Drumconner in 2002, as a member of the Housekeeping team. I progressed to Assistant Housekeeper, and when the Housekeeper retired in 2009, I applied for and became the Housekeeper. I have a wealth of experience in Housekeeping in the various roles I have had, both privately, and working for a large company.
My family are very important to me, and I have two grown up daughters and two gorgeous grandsons. The boys keep me very busy when I’m not at work! What free time I have I enjoy walking and eating out. I also enjoy camping and have travelled the length and breadth of the UK experiencing the different camp sites our country has to offer. I also regularly visit family in Spain, which is a great contrast to my holidays in this country-mostly due to the weather!
